About : Fauna

With breathtaking scenery and fields decorated by Mother Nature in colours so unique that no artist's palette can replicate it, Provence is world famous for its beautiful nature and curious wildlife.

Colourful countryside

Take a drive across Provence and you will pass purple and yellow fields and endless miles of natural beauty.

The perfect climate and rich soil help all the most wonderful plants thrive and make it an ideal environment for fauna.

Golden eagles, lizards and pink flamingos

The best place to see the wonderful wildlife in Provence is in the natural areas. The little known Gorge du Verdon is a must see for bird watchers and those who appreciate the regal glide of the Golden Eagle, which was successfully re-introduced here recently. It can be spotted in the sky in search for food.

On a hot day lizards can also be spotted scouring the gorge including the glorious Gecko and listen out for the crickets' song as you take in the glorious nature that surrounds you.

The gorge, the widest and deepest in Europe, is situated within a natural park with sweeping mountains, colourful wildflower a beautiful lake and spectacular views. A walk across it is invigorating in itself.

Travel to Camargue and see the long horned black bull in all its splendour. Take a horseback tour on a white stallion through the exotic marshland in search for the pink flamingos and other fauna that roam the area.

The fantastic wildlife is just another reason why Provence is well worth a visit.
