Some places seem reserved for just a few insiders. It’s the case for La Maison in Blauzac, a small village in the Gard region. And you’re lucky, here are the keys.

To be introduced to the Maison, first you must get to Blauzac, a little village perched on a hill, not for from the Gardon Gorge. It’s a magical place that contains many architectural treasures, like the massive medieval houses and the ruins of its old castle. A center for Protestant resistance, Blauzac’s history proves that the village produced a few fierce defenders of the reformed church, such as Ravanel or the Guérin brothers.

Today, this farming town lives in a tranquility that perfectly suits those wishing to spend one or a few days outside of time.

Indeed, a secret place exists, in the heart of the village, which provides just the conditions for such a retreat. A beautiful house opposite the church offers the vision of beautiful light-green shutters. On the left, within the surrounding wall that runs along the little street, a discreet doorway opens onto a courtyard where the white of the stone blends with the green of a young cypress and a bed of Acanthus. Further on, lime trees, terracotta pitchers, a stone table... At the end of the garden, a parapet, the only boundary to the breathtaking view that allows you to embrace a vista extending from Ventoux to the landscapes of Uzège.

If the weather doesn’t permit you to enjoy the charm of this superb garden with it’s large swimming pool for long, the interior of the house offers a sanctuary whose charm operates for a long time. On the ground floor, the vaulted dining room with its pale walls announces breakfast, both generous and elegant, with the antique crockery arranged on fine furniture of simple charm. The library is an invitation for some armchair traveling: brightly colored rugs, furniture from the Far East, and books in English provide the décor for a subliminal expedition to the East Indies.

The change of scene continues in each of the bedrooms: Sasmayoux with its dominant red, scatted with paintings and Burmese lacquerware, Bauchant with its interpretation of the local country atmosphere, Cuzco and its Peruvian vermillion in the format of a family suite, Ferrara and its neo-Baroque exuberance distinguished by blue basalt tiles, and Venet, whose windows open on to the surrounding countryside and let the golden light in on to the polished concrete floor.

When you learn that the welcome the masters of the house reserve you is equal to the charm of the Maison, there’s no doubt you won’t want to return the keys. We understand.
