After all that culture you can go for a stroll through the scented gardens, by the water wheel, and the white oak. The aim of this site is to promote the culture of our ancestors and of Provencal society. The ethnological museum, a registered historic monument, won’t fail to impress.

 

In order to respond to the increasing demand, Salagon is organized according to three themes: the priory which allows you to go back in time as far as the Roman Empire; the gardens and their plant species, and lastly the territory of Salagon and the landscapes of Haute Provence. These activities are an excellent way to learn while having fun and meeting others. The life of the museum is structured around four permanent exhibitions:

Over 2,500 species of plants, trees and flowers grow in Salagon’s five gardens. When the traditional agricultural life of Haute Provence disappeared in 1970, Pierre Martel decided to begin a collection retracing the region’s history, and this is the collection currently on display in the museum. For a few years now, photographs, postcards, a video library and recordings have been collected so that everyone can share in the history of Haute Provence.

In the heart of Haute-Provence and the Luberon, near Forcalquier, are located the museum and gardens of Salagon. The site is made up of a priory – a registered historic monument – and of six hectares (15 acres) of gardens, which have received the distinguished qualifications of “Museum of France” and “Remarkable Garden.” A visit is in order…
