Hand Made

For two generations, the Atelier Buffile has been creating ceramics for decoration and architecture, as well as a huge range of crockery with a colorful and modern style. A joint exhibition with the Pierre Frey fabric house provides the excuse for a (re)discovery of Vincent Buffile’s work.

Brightly colored crockery and decorative objects with a bohemian style are the Atelier Buffile’s trademarks. Since 1955, the little ceramics factory from Aix-en-Provence has perpetuated a family tradition always marked by modernity. The offspring of ceramist parents, Vincent Buffile took over the workshop after completing his studies at the Fine Arts School of Aix-en-Provence, as well as a few trips around the world. His wife Monique oversees the development of the crockery collections, including the famous pesto bowls, and the multi-colored square plates that match

the bouillabaisse sets. For the last few years Vincent has developed an active program of artistic collaborations. Guest painters and artists (Hervé Maury, Louis Molle and Karen Christofides) and participation in competitions and exhibitions have proven to be fantastic opportunities to exercise his art in good company. His research on decoration and form led him to explore many themes for his tiled friezes and other architectural ornaments.

The meeting with Patrick Frey today gives him the opportunity to display an expertise inspired by the work of the

famous fabric house Pierre Frey. The ceramist presents a large range of patterns drawn from the fabric collections of this famous brand on large plates, cups, and vases… The famous Bakou, Ondes, Thessalie, Concorde and Rameaux designs here find subtle variations in black and white. For his part of the collaboration, Patrick Frey produced a fabric inspired by a pattern of ink stains created by Vincent Buffile.

From November 17 to December 21, the Pierre Frey Accessoires store exhibits these works in Paris. It’s a wonderful occasion to admire these designs, which are also of course for sale.
