In an exhibition in Aix-en-Provence or elsewhere, in the art galleries of Lourmarin, Trets or Saint-Tropez, you may come across original and delicate sculptures, the creations of a unique artist. Since 1995 Myriam Paoli poetically plaits and twists blackened lengths of wire. ‘I weave together the wire, the shapes and their ghostly shadows’ and the result can be strange, even spectral. ‘The wire draws in space and carves out of the void’ she says; and it’s really true… We see a melon, and within it the pips, a bag and its contents… faces are suggested, animals, shoes and other daily objects, musical instruments, bunches of flowers like peonies … Everything is light, fragile, sensitive and beautiful.

Myriam Paoli,

When Art Meets Craft

Sometimes the cicada isn’t only a slightly kitsch ceramic souvenir but a true piece of art…
