Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is known for the richness of its cultural heritage, as well as for being a place to practice the art of living. Charming hotels, beautiful townhouses, boutiques and art galleries are liberally sprinkled throughout this major Provençal city. Nearby, vineyards surround the white hills of the Alpilles, while still giving way to the many walking paths that pass through, to the delight of hiking enthusiasts.

Gastronomy and regional produce are not lacking either, and gourmets are spoilt for choice. Provençal cuisine cooked fresh from the market, the taste of the south…

In Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, ice-cream lovers only need to know one address: Le Roma. For more than twenty years, and in all seasons, they have been congregating here to enjoy the specialties of the house.

Here, there’s sunshine on every plate in the numerous restaurants and tables d’hôtes of the city and its environs. But there’s one essential address for ice cream lovers: on the Boulevard Marceau, the “ring road” around the town center, Le Roma offers a menu that has made customers, both young and old, salivate for over twenty years.

This restaurant, which also offers Italian cuisine and transforms into a tearoom in the afternoon, has made homemade sorbets and ice creams their specialty, using fresh, regional products.

Affogato with vanilla, Amarenata with amarena cherries, and Dolce Vita with caramel, fleur de lait, chocolate and whipped cream rival the Nocciola (hazelnut, coffee and chocolate) or Freschezza, three delicious sorbets of your choice served with fruit salad and coulis… Here, gluttony is a delightful sin.

The terrace was redone in 2010, at the same time as the façade, which has a designer edge with its blond wood clapboarding. Inside, the style is modern and warm, without pretension. The furniture is also good enough to eat: in tones of chocolate, coffee and vanilla, it whets the hungry customers’ appetites for the delights to come. And for those who wish to prolong the pleasure at home, it’s possible to order ice cream to go, prepared in cones or isothermal tubs. The ultimate temptation, The Roma is open year-round, and from 9am to 11pm in high season. You’ve been warned!
