Miguel Chevalier has been a part of the digital art scene for many years now. Unbelievably, he’s been working exclusively on computers since 1978. His works are both experimental and pioneering, with direct links to recurring themes such as nature and artifice, flux and networks, virtual cities and arabesques.
Between reality and virtuality...

Artist Miguel Chevalier settles on Marseilles' Place d'Arvieux with a poetic installation, beautiful example of his work.
Culture and Fashion
His oeuvre, for Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture, is just one of many projects that he will create for urban, public spaces. Designed by Miguel Chevalier and Charles Bové, Seconde-Nature mixes the real (sculpture), and the virtual (image). This work is made up of an 18 meter (59 foot) high orange sculpture recalling the shape of a shell,
which becomes the canvas of a masterpiece in perpetual movement. Every evening a monumental virtual garden is projected on to this facade. Interactive, the garden evolves according to the seasons, and depending on nearby activity. The plants turn on themselves when a passerby walks in front of the sculpture; leaves of the imaginary garden tremble and fall when the train goes by, creating a breeze. This urban digital work is of a rare poetry, and totally in tune with the times.
