Also known by its botanical name Pelargonium graveolens, the plant originates from South Africa and was introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Rose Geranium is particularly significant as an ingredient in perfume and grew in popularity after Demarson established a plantation near Grasse in 1844. Provence's generous sunshine and rich soil make it an ideal location to cultivate the plant.
