Rose Geranium

Pictures : Rose Geranium

About : Rose Geranium

Fragrant pink-purple Rose Geranium flowers cluster in meadows and gardens around Provence. Also known by its botanical name Pelargonium graveolens, the plant originates from South Africa and was introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Rose Geranium is particularly significant as an ingredient in perfume and grew in popularity after Demarson established a plantation near Grasse in 1844. Provence's generous sunshine and rich soil make it an ideal location to cultivate the plant.

Rose Geranium properties

Essential oil extracted from Rose Geranium has restorative and antiseptic properties, relieving anxiety and depression. The oil has a sweet floral scent and is extracted from the plant's flowers by steam distillation.

Rose Geranium uses

Aside from its use in perfume and aromatherapy, Rose Geranium is a natural insect repellent, helping to ward off mosquitoes in warm weather. In ancient times it had a similar function, with people believing that the plant could keep evil spirits at bay.

L'Occitane en Provence blends Rose Geranium with ingredients including angelica, lavender and rosemary in its Repairing range of haircare. The Repairing Mask for Dry & Damaged Hair protects against the environmental stresses of urban living, while regenerating and nourishing hair.
